Saturday Oct 18 another trapping clinic was held in joint effort
by Missouri Dept of Conservation and Missouri Trappers Association at Hulston
Mill Historic Park east of Greenfield, Missouri.
Instructors where Agent Andy Barnes MDC, Doren Miller vice-president MTA, Steve
Crain, Dist 5 director MTA, John Daniel, MTA member, Cletis Richards, MTA
member.
Areas covered where.
Missouri rules and regulations.
Trappers part in managing the renewable resource.
Various styles of traps and their uses.
Anchoring traps and the various styles and uses.
Proper bedding of traps.
Written materials were available to students compliments of MDC, MTA and various
Suppliers.
Lunch was provided on grounds thru the efforts of Mrs John Daniel and according
to John she contributed a lot effort behind the scenes also.
After lunch the pupils split into two groups to see first hand the location,
sets , lures and baits use for the areas of water and land animals.
Steve Crain and Andy Barnes volunteered for water sets and John Daniel and
Cletis Richards covered the various land sets.
After set demonstrations, Doren Miller and his wife demonstrated skinning,
fleshing and stretching raccoon and beaver.
Doren also gave a lot of helpful hints and tips to make your fur more attractive
to your prospective buyer an as Doren is a fur-buyer these hints were well
received.
A drawing for door prizes concluded the clinic.
Doren Miller surprised each of the students with a gift of a shiny new Duke 1
1/2 coil spring to use with their new found skills.
